This bathroom needs a refresh and it needed it ten years ago! It’s a small space that would benefit from a total gut and reconfiguration but we don’t have the time (hello baby coming in 8ish weeks) so we are planning a modest but impactful update.
Before jumping in with both feet I start by coming up with a mood board to help give us a little direction. We plan to replace the floor and shower tile, add board and batten to the walls and replace the vanity mirror and light. It is too narrow of a space to replace the vanity so I am going to work with what we have and try and refresh it. Here’s what I’m thinking…
// sources // 1. sconce // 2. mirror // 3. wallpaper // 4. vanity // 5. step stool // 6. subway tile // 7. shower curtain // 8. floor tile
We started by removing the sliding glass door which helped open up the space. No more battling the slider to get the kids during bath time! We then removed the vanity, wallpaper and started removing the porcelain tile from the floor and walls.
Next up we removed the plastic surround in the shower which revealed bead-board and wallpaper. It was exciting to find original details and I imagined a clawfoot tub once gracing this space! The walls were in really bad condition (with a side of mold) so we tore it out and rebuilt the walls after some minor repairs to the plumbing. Under the floor tile was a layer of linoleum but luckily we could remove the entire piece of plywood it was attached to and put in a new subfloor.
And there we have it – sort of back together again. Who’s ready to do some tiling?
