Hello friends, and welcome to Week Two of the One Room Challenge! To catch up on all things ORC you can read my post from Week One here and be sure to check the ORC blog to see what the designers and guest participants are up to during Week 2.
The Challenges
The number one challenge in this space is the size. It is a modest room, measuring in at 13′ x 7.5′ with no closet. It needs to include a crib, changing station/dresser, wardrobe and rocking chair. That is a lot of furniture in a very small space! Oh, and that rocking chair is a design nightmare with it’s cranberry red upholstery. I had plans to get it reupholstered but enter worldwide pandemic and now I find myself designing the room around the existing chair color. Then I remembered I had this Nathalie, Lipstick linen fabric from another project that I never used. Yes, we finally have a jumping off point!
Luckily I had this fabric stashed away because it will become the drapery in the nursery which I will be making. Unfortunately since I am such a fabric hoarder it is no longer available (purchased back in 2015). Sorry, friends! I plan on adding my favorite woven shades and my favorite curtain rods to complete the look.
Let’s take a look at the design board.
What is Changing
An antique dresser will serve as our dresser/changing table but it first needs to get a little makeover. It is currently turquoise so the plan is to strip it and hopefully get a similar result as Shades of Blue Interiors did in my design board. I purchased the loveliest handles from Anthropologie which are girly and delicate. Can’t wait for them to arrive! Still narrowing down the art for above the dresser but love this mirror, artwork and print.
The nursery has no closet and baby girl is reaching the stage where we need some hanging space so we are going to makeover this IKEA wardrobe. It’s the perfect size – deep enough to hold standard size hangers but not huge so it won’t overwhelm the space. Cane furniture is having a major moment and I am here for it! I am going to try and recreate this look by adding cane to the front panels of the wardrobe and replace the existing hardware with these sweet leather pulls.
Our last major project will be DIY’ing a radiator cover. Baby girl just discovered the radiator is her new favorite toy so it needs to be covered. Jen over at Rambling Renovators has a great tutorial that I will be following. I have a feeling the Mr. will be jumping in on this project!
I am still struggling with what rug to go with. I want something neutral with texture but don’t really want or like jute. Stumbled upon this rug in my design board but it is out of stock. The hunt and struggle continues!
Because I love a good to-do list but most of all love crossing items off!
