Throughout this process, I second-guessed whether vision and reality would be the same. What a waste of time because my terrible sketch and equally terrible measurements turned out to be the best change in our living room.
How We turned an ugly, useless corner into a functional and beautiful feature by building a radiator cabinet.
Hanging a light above a TV is not a popular choice because of the glare it creates. While my methodology might be confusing I choose to do this for a few reasons. First, I wanted to treat our smart TV like art. Second, the light fills the space between the TV and crown molding perfectly. Third, I wanted to introduce another finish in the space and this was the perfect opportunity for a brass moment. Fourth, if we ever end up removing the TV we can easily hang a piece of art and light it up! Can you tell I had to convince a few people…
We initially struggled with how to make the radiator cover look like a cabinet and also vent the heat we need. The cane was a perfect solution to our cabinet fronts. Not only is cane furniture gaining in popularity it also brings great texture to the piece. I was initially going to paint the cane to match the cover but am so glad I ended up leaving it natural. Now to add brass knobs or not?
And best news, I now have space for my Christmas tree in the bay window!
