Last week I discussed the solution to our living room layout and our plans for making a radiator built-in with our TV mounted above. Easy in theory but the reality is we feel in over our heads. There is no tutorial only our terrible sketches and equally terrible measurements. Let’s be honest, we’re worried our vision is larger than our skills. But you know what, we’ve planned as much as possible, mistakes will be made so what’s the harm in trying?
my vision
I keep coming back to McGee & Co’s Claire Sideboard and Pottery Barn’s Dolores Cane Console as major design inspiration. For me, the cane door fronts for texture combined with a simple cabinet are what I love so much. Then I found Lauren Macke at Home Theology and her DIY radiator cover. It was love at first sight. Yes! We can make the radiator look like a cane cabinet and easily frame and drywall around the pipes to mount the TV. But how to tie them together? This stumped us.
A quick Pinterest search of “bookcase radiator cover” and my eyes were immediately drawn to this setup. I could see our TV in place of the books and shelves and the 4 door cabinet below. Now we were getting somewhere.
And then this stunner from Sarah at Salt Design Co stopped me in my tracks. I was immediately drawn to the counter and crown molding which ties it all together. I mean, GORGEOUS!
So there you have it, 3 photos that are the inspiration for our built-in radiator tv cabinet. A DIY Frankenstein of sorts that will incorporate cane front cabinets to conceal the radiator, a shallow counter with a mounted TV above, and capped with crown molding for that built-in look. Can you see it? I can.
