I always love a good before and after so for self-preservation purposes here is our house in all of its original carpet, window dressings and cobwebs glory! Let’s get started, shall we?
Our front door entry way is what originally sold me on this house. You guys, I am a sucker for all things old and charming! It is bursting with charm from the original front door with a built in twist door bell, to the stained glass window in the stairway with original intricate wood detailing. This space just oozes charm!
And that my friends is where the charm ends on the first floor! From the front door entry, you can step left through a doorway and into the formal living room which will become our dining room.
From the dining room walk through a doorway and into the living room which was formerly used as a dining room. There are a few reasons why we decided to make this change. For
Here is the kitchen on the other side of the wood burning stove. The kitchen was remodeled in the ’80’s and that is when we think the wood burning stove was installed and ceramic tile laid down. I am totally gutted that the kitchen doesn’t have the original wood floors but we can’t alway get what we want. Right?
From the back side of the kitchen looking to the front of the house you can see the hallway and a small laundry room.
Off of the kitchen is the back entrance to the house which was originally a porch and then at some point converted into a home office. This space will become our future mudroom.
Another charming feature that I absolutely love about this house is the back staircase located in the mudroom. I think it is going to make for some epic games of tag!
At the top of the back stairs is the hallway looking towards the front of the house.
The first of the four bedrooms is located on the left side of the hallway. This room will become our master bedroom.
The next bedroom on the right of the hallway will be the girls shared bedroom. They reluctantly opted to share a room so that we could convert another room into their playroom.
The one and only bathroom currently in the house is on the left side of the hallway next to the master bedroom. She’s a modest room but oh so very functional!
Immediately next to the bathroom is the stairwell of the front staircase that leads to the entry way.
Across from the front stairwell is the third bedroom on the right side of the hallway which will become the playroom.
Rounding out the last room on the second floor is the nursery at the front of the house. It’s a tiny space but perfect for our tiny little offspring!
The bonus feature of this house and what sold Ryan is the walkup third floor with two additional rooms. It oddly reminds him of our former three-story home in Germany even though that house was super modern and well, this baby is not! But I do have to agree with him, something feels familiar with this space.
At the top of the third floor landing is a small hallway that leads to the two additional bonus rooms. This room is at the front of the house and will become our home office.
At the end of the same small hallway is the second bonus room at the back of the house with no ceiling and all! This room will eventually become a combo playroom and guest bedroom. And this is when Big Bertha comes into play – that’s her chimney and one of the reasons I want her gone! Can’t you just see the potential with no chimney running through the middle of the room! But I digress…
Well friends that concludes our house tour. It is a diamond in the rough but boy do we see the potential! Do you? Don’t answer that!
