The dining room has turned into our makeshift classroom so we are logging A LOT of time in here and while I should be paying attention to Everyday Math I find myself dreaming of a refresh on an antique dresser. Ryan’s grandmother gifted us with this antique dresser when she sold her lake home and no longer needed it. It was one of the first pieces of furniture in our first home and I tend to get very sentimental when looking at it. It’s held all my babies bibs, stained placemats from lively dinner parties, and has been an epic bar top for many joyful occasions. It’s traveled around the world with us but lately, I was growing tired of it. Had my love affair with this antique dresser finally run its course?
Don’t fret friends because an afternoon spent painting and I have fallen hard for it all over again!
When I saw this abstract painting from Studio McGee’s collaboration with Target a light bulb went off and I instantly knew the dresser needed to be painted and it needed to be moody! I searched my basement paint cabinet and found two colors to test – Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron and Benjamin Moore Onyx. Both are great moody blacks but Wrought Iron was reading navy while Onyx was that perfect black I was looking for. Onyx brought all the drama!
I then styled it with items I had on hand – nothing like shopping your own house! I’m still not paying attention during Everyday Math but it was an afternoon very well spent!
