If you’ve been following along then you know that we wrapped up our porch refresh in early August but didn’t completely finish because I lost the house numbers . Whoopsie! And you guys, they’re still lost but everything happens for a reason because the new ones are even better! I purchased this channel bracket and these house numbers which are simple but perfect. They were so easy to install and now I’m waiting on the perfect mailbox to hang below.
With the new house numbers up and a chill in the air it is FALL PORCH DECORATING time! We have a lot of walkers pass by our house and adding a festive porch is my way of bringing a little joy to our community.
5 FALL PORCH DECORATING TIPS
1 – Clean! It’s so simple but our porch was DIRTY! We removed cobwebs, cleaned the windows and swept the porch.
2 – Pick a color scheme. This year I was inspired by this wreath and knew I wanted to include rust, burgundy, pink and tangerine.
3 – Pick your plants and pumpkins with the color scheme in mind. For fall I always go with mums, flowering kale, coral bells and heirloom pumpkins. I chose burgundy and pink mums, purple and rust coral bells and flowering kale for greenery. Heirloom pumpkins come in a variety of unique colors and shapes and I went with white, tangerine, dark green and a light sage green for added interest. Don’t forget to water and deadhead so those plants look fresh all season long!
4 – Add visual interest by adding height and layers. I accomplish this by using tall planters, stacking pumpkins and using the steps.
5 – Finally, add a door mat and layer it with a larger rug underneath to make it feel more substantial. I like that our rug adds warmth and texture too! And if you have outside seating don’t forget to add a pillow or two and a cozy blanket so you can enjoy an early morning coffee or evening drink.
That’s our fall porch this season and in a few short weeks I’ll be adding a few touches for Halloween. After all, we live across the street from a cemetery so our house is practically calling for a little spook!
