With my vision in place, the first project to get checked off the to-do list was the staircase makeover. The power of paint and sweat equity amazes me every time because you guys, this is the same staircase!
With a budget in mind, the easiest option was to repaint the staircase a fresh white. With our favorite primer in hand, we applied 3 coats and were finally ready to paint the final color when we noticed the stairs had no skirting board! We must have been so distracted by the green paint because it was the first time noticing it.
After a quick google search, we settled on this tutorial for a DIY skirt board. It was a tough project. Hello, old house with not a single straight wall or tread in sight!
Now that the skirting board was installed and the stairs painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White we were ready for the stair runner. I went with an inexpensive berber in the upstairs hallway and continued it down the stairs. We centered the runner off of the door at the top of the stairs and wrapped the step lip which is called Hollywood style. Functional and budget-friendly!
We’re super happy with the transformation!
Next up is the upstairs hallway makeover and then finally tile installation time!
