We found our home in October 2018 and moved in April 2019 after taking a few months to DIY the mudroom & kitchen floor and bathroom. This 120 year old home is far from perfect but we love bringing her back to life one small project at a time. Here’s the progress we’ve made so far.
Entry
All the original charm in the entry is why I fell in love with this house. From the staircase to the stained glass window and original front door with doorbell. Here is how it looked when we toured the house:
And here it is today after we ripped out the carpet, had the floors refinished and painted the stairwell window and trim a fresh white.
dining room
Off of the entry was a formal sitting room that we changed into our dining room. On tour day it looked like this:
And here we are today. We ripped out the carpets, refinished the floors, installed a chandelier and painted the walls and trim.
Cloffice
In the dining room was an unused closest so we converted it into a “cloffice”. Turns out it’s the most functional change we made!
Living room
Off of the kitchen was the dining room. When we toured the house it looked like this:
And today, it is our living room. We refinished the floors, removed a wood burning stove and painted the walls and trim.
kitchen
The kitchen had been remodeled in the ’80’s with one bank of cabinets and a wide open space! Here is what the kitchen looked like:
And here we are today! We removed the old ceramic tile, laid herringbone large format tiles, DIY’d a kitchen island, removed an upper cabinet, installed a back splash and painted the lowers to conceal the black appliances.
mudroom
I love that our house has a front and back staircase as well as mudroom. We went from this…
To this after we ripped out the carpet, installed a herringbone tile floor, painted the stair treads, installed carpet runner and painted the walls and trim.
main bedroom
Our bedroom is modest but has the most potential for expansion in the future.
And here we are today. We had carpet put down since the floors were too damaged to be refinished and painted the walls and trim.
kids shared bedroom
When we toured the house the minty walls left an impression! It’s the largest bedroom so we decided to make it the girls shared bedroom.
We refinished the floors, painted the walls and trim a fresh white, installed a new chandelier and wall lights above their beds.
Playroom
A dedicated playroom was a priority but we didn’t have the extra space so we put the older girls together and turned this extra bedroom into a play space. We went from this…
To this. Besides refinishing the floors we have not touched this space. Decor goes a long way!
NurseY
We we toured the house this was an office space but with it being on the second floor we knew it would become the nursery.
And today, my favorite room in the house! We ripped out the carpet, refinished the floors, and styled the rest during the Spring One Room Challenge.
bathroom
Our one and only bathroom. Yep, family of five and we can’t get a powder room and second bath soon enough! We knew this needed to be gutted and here is what we were working with:
And here we are today after we took the room back to studs. New floor, bathroom tub tile, toilet, board and batten wall treatment, wallpaper, lighting. The only thing that stayed was the original vanity that I stripped back and restained.
