Do you have a room in your house that stumps you? I do, it’s our living room. With a radiator, bay window, and cased opening to our kitchen there are limited options for our tv and sectional. Our house is 120 years old which means power outlets are few and far between. We have 1 outlet in this room so we placed the media cabinet next to the cased opening…
positioned the couch in front of the TV, jutting out from the wall in front of the bay window cutting off almost 5 feet of space. Less than ideal but it worked. We never liked it but it served our needs for almost 2 years. Untill…
This Christmas I dreamt of having our tree centered in the bay window. I could see it twinkling for all that drove by and the kids gathered around Christmas morning. It was a real Hallmark vision. But it didn’t happen. We had no options, at least that’s what I thought.
What if we made the radiator look like a cabinet, conceal the pipes with a fake wall, mount the TV, and make the whole thing look like a built-in?
Visually I needed to evaluate it so Ryan came up with a counter for the top of the radiator so we could place the TV on it, swing the couch into the corner and live with it for the day. News flash, WE LOVED IT! It opened up the room gaining back those precious 5 feet. The girls had so much floor space to play. The room instantly felt like both a family hangout spot and an adult area Ryan and I could unwind in without the TV being front and center. And let’s not forget, our Christmas could be centered in the bay window next year! We were sold.
But now came the hard part, how in the heck could we make this vision a reality?
