Before you begin, removing wallpaper can get pretty messy so make sure to protect your floors with plastic sheeting. You will need a putty knife (for scraping), spray bottle, trash bag and paper towels on hand. These are the steps I followed after some trial and error. By no means am I an expert!
First, score your wallpaper so that moisture can penetrate and loosen up the glue. I borrowed my Dad’s tool the Paper Tiger (which I kept calling Tiger King!) and would highly recommend it.
Next, spray the wallpaper down (after scoring) with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then come back and scrape away using a putty knife. It’s best to work in small sections. Some spots may require more than one application but it came off pretty easily once saturated.
After the wall dries you will most likely have residual glue from removing the wallpaper. In a spray bottle mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda, a few drops of dish soap, and hot water. Spray (in sections) on the wall and scrape off the glue using your putty knife. I found discarding the glue from the putty knife directly onto a paper towel easiest. Once you’ve scraped off the glue, spray the wall down again and using a paper towel wipe any excess glue off. Your wall should feel smooth at this point but might require an additional pass.
Congratulations, you’re done.
