Welcome to Week Seven of Better Homes and Garden One Room Challenge. It is crunch time and the to do list is growing but I am inching closer to getting the room put back together! My original design board did not include touching the walls because they were wallpapered by the previous owner with a textured paper that had been painted. This is a pretty common solution to fix damaged plaster walls in older homes (ours is 100+ years old). But when I stumbled upon this wallpaper by Chasing Paper in collaboration with Pehr, I was compelled (with only 3 weeks left in the challenge) to make it happen! I think it compliments the red, blush and lilac found in the drapes and is also perfectly sweet for my baby girl!
The amount of joy and happiness this print brings me was well worth the time spent prepping the wall. First off, stripping wallpaper is a labor of love. It’s a fairly easy process but boy does it take time. I only did one 13′ wall and it took me about 8 hours. Luckily I had a few episodes of Armchair Expert podcast to pass the time. I found no major damage on the plaster so a fresh coat a paint and then I will be ready to wallpaper. CAN NOT WAIT!
Next up was tackling a radiator cover and you guys, I built that! Gosh, am I proud. Not because it was particularly difficult but because I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, asked for help and got it done. I’m a paint, staple gun and glue kinda DIY gal and I normally steer clear of power tools but I knew I wanted to push myself and build a radiator cover. It was a joint effort (thank you Ryan) but now that one radiator cover is built watch out world – everyone is getting one! You get a radiator cover, and YOU get a radiator cover!
We used this great tutorial by Jenn at Jenn Blogs Here. Check her out, she has amazing DIY tutorials! We adapted her design slightly and finished the panels off with aluminum sheeting. The top is cut but I need to finish the wallpaper before I can secure it in place.
